he public is invited to this weekly, family-oriented Lowcountry farmers market. The highlights are featured on our web site www.FarmersMarketBluffton.com along with a list of our local Growers and Food Vendors. Local to us is South Carolina and Georgia.
We are now taking S.N.A.P ( supplemental nutritional aid program) debit cards at the market along with WIC ( women and infant children ) and senior vouchers. See the market tent for more information.
August 2009 Theme: Nothing Could be Finer than to be in South Carolina
August 5: We welcome local South Carolina author , Holly Herrick to the market for the day . Holly’s cookbook has just been published and released this summer : “Southern Farmers Market Cookbook” (www.googlebooks.com ) We hope to have demonstrations of her recipes and the market will have her cookbooks for a a ‘book signing’ sale . Bill Dupont will be playing and as usual lunch prepared and served by Bluffton BBQ, Bluffton Oyster Co , We Island Gumbo and Lost Penguin Deli to name a few. The produce will still be summer ripe and fresh! Don’t forget about our Kid’s Corner as we take pride in being a well rounded family activity destination.
August 13: Our farmers will bring in some baking apples as the season is starting to change a little but the melons will still be ripe. As usual we also will have fresh happy eggs, natural raised beef and local cheeses vendors. The Weigh Station - all around fun band will be playing this day along with the Master Gardeners answering all your garden questions.
August 20: J. Howard Duff your Bluffton Blues man will be entertaining the market shoppers on this hot summer day. Our ECO water wagon will still be with us to keep everyone hydrated for free and teach us how to have fresh healthy water from our own homes, see the Water Wagon at the entrance on Calhoun Street and talk to Beth while enjoying a drink of cool filtered water . Select Health / First Choice were well received in June and are back with information about health insurance for children and free gifts.
August 27: Stock up on all your veggies for preserving goods as the market will progress into it’s autumn season next month and new types of seasonal produce will be at the market soon. Visit our website for our “In Season” calendar. If you do not know how to preserve veggies talk to any of the farmers and get their advice they all do it. We have Palmetto Animal League for the first time at the market in our nonprofit tent. The Sandbox of Hilton Head will be in the Kid’s Corner tent they are an interactive children’s museum.
