ust as its name implies, The Hideaway is a retreat tucked away in the corner of William Pope Drive near Sun City. Owner Victor Hanlein #provides guests with a varied menu serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and Manager David Rimko oversees operations.

Friends always ask me where they can go for breakfast. The Hideaway easily accommodates standard breakfast selections and specials. Whether you want eggs served your way, omelets, pancakes, waffles, french toast or one of many side orders, you’ll find prices reasonable, ranging from $3.95 for a short stack of buttermilk pancakes to a three egg omelet with breakfast potatoes or grits, toast or biscuit for $6.25. If you aren’t all that hungry, there are #muffins, croissants, cinnamon buns, bagels and more. Among their morning specials are Carolina Shrimp and Grits for $7.25, Eggs Benedict for $7.75, Steak and Eggs for $8.95.

Starting at 11am, the menu provides numerous lunch options. Be sure to check the menu for Lunch offerings as well as the menu section titled ‘Lunch & Dinner’ options. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the number of choices you’ll have. Lunch selections include sandwiches served with chips and pickle spear, and burgers can be ordered #with or without the bun or fries. In addition, there are homemade soups and a number of appetizing salad plates. Prices for lunch offerings range from $4.25 for the All-American Grilled Cheese sandwich to $9.25 for the Ribeye Steak and Mushroom sandwich.

The Hideaway offers an Early Bird Special from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on select nights. Early Bird selections include a garden salad and choice of mashed potatoes, fries, baked or sweet potato or rice, beverage and dessert. Prices range from $10.95 to $15.95 and these specials are available on a ‘dine-in only’ basis. Also available are Low Carbohydrate selections served with garden salad and a double portion of vegetables. These include Broiled Tilapia, Baked or Blackened Cod, Trout Amandine, Grilled Chicken Breast and Broiled #Flounder. As you can see these provide appetizing options for those who want to watch their carbs.

The night I met Donna and Ted Huffman for dinner, we were joined by Donna’s Mom and shared a fun evening together. Our server Andrew explained the evening’s specials that we all sampled and enjoyed: Chicken Parmigiana served on pasta and The Hideaway Steak. And, we couldn’t leave the table without trying two of the delicious dessert offerings: very rich Death By Chocolate Cake and Blackberry Cheesecake.

All specials are posted, including those offered on special evenings, such as Prime Rib on Thursday and Fried Cod on Friday. Be sure to ask your server about the Raspberry Salmon special and whether it is available. #Enjoy dinner and something from the bar, with wine available by the bottle or glass and draft and bottled beer are both offered. And if you are interested in being entertained, then be sure to go for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings when different entertainers are there for your listening pleasure.

It should be noted that The Hideaway participates in a community support program by their involvement with the Meals on Wheels program. This program is intended to provide a nutritious lunch on a daily basis to those who are homebound seniors. But the program provides much more than healthy food. The mission of Meals on Wheels is to help clients remain independent and provide peace of mind for family members who can’t be with their loved ones every day. On behalf of a grateful community, our sincere thanks to management for all their efforts.
