Summer 2007 at the Coastal Discovery Museum

Nature Discovery Day Camp
Tuesdays and Fridays – Running through August 10th
The camp will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Honey Horn. The camp will feature nature projects, as well as an educational marsh walk along the “new” boardwalk with a naturalist, art projects, excavation with the “new” Kawasakisaurus and puppetry development of Lowcountry animals with Yostie. Open to children 6 – 12 years of age, the campers may be left for the day. Bring your own lunch. Cost is $40.00 per child, includes an afternoon snack. Daytime Loggerhead Turtle Talk and Walk
Tuesdays – Running through August 8th
This daytime lecture and beach walk from 10 – 11:30 a.m. educates participants about the threatened loggerhead sea turtles. After an introduction, we will proceed to the beach to examine the nesting habitat and nest sites. No turtles will be seen, as they are nocturnal. Cost is $7.00 (ages 4-12) per child $12.00 per adult Reservations are required at 843-689-6767 ext 223.

“Yostie” the puppeteer and storyteller
Every Tuesday – Running through August 7th
Yostie will work with the participants, as they become puppeteers and storytellers at Honey Horn. Each participant will perform on the stage of our “new” pole barn and take a puppet home with them. Program is held from 2-3 p.m. Cost is $7.00 per child (ages 4-12) $12.00 per adult. Reservations are required at 843-689-6767 ext 223.

Animals of the Lowcountry

Wednesdays July 11 & 25, August 1 & 15
A variety of Lowcountry animals will be on display and you can learn about their habits during this program at Honey Horn. Scheduled to appear from Oatland Island Educational Center are: barred owl, screech owl, alligator, corn snake, gopher tortoise, toad, opossum and a legless lizard. Participants will have the opportunity to not only see these animals, but take photos of them as well! Program at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Cost is $7.00 per child (ages 4-12) $12.00 per adult. Getting to know a ‘gator
Every Thursday – Running through August 23rd
Tim Williams from Gatorland will bring a 3-4 foot gator, as well as year old hatchling, to share with the audience at Honey Horn. Participants will learn about gators, their folklore, and their habits, as well as many great stories! You will be able to touch and even hold an alligator after the program. This program is presented at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. with great photo opportunities after the presentation. Cost is $7.00 per child (ages 4-12) $12.00 per adult. Evening Turtle Talk and Walk
Tuesday and Thursday and running through August 30th at 8 p.m.
An evening lecture and beach walk to educate participants about the threatened loggerhead sea turtle. Presentation to entire group and then 2 groups of 10 proceed to the beach to examine the nesting habitat and nest sites. NO TURTLE SIGHTINGS ARE GUARANTEED.
