ocated in the heart of downtown Bluffton, Myrtle’s Bar & Grill offers fine dining as well as a “Cheers” like neighborhood gathering place. Whether there’s an event that brings the family or good friends together, gathering at Myrtle’s to celebrate and indulge for lunch, dinner or Sunday Brunch will always be a good time.
Living here in the Lowcountry is truly a blessing and especially in the spring when any event is cause for celebration. Additionally, I believe that Sundays should be a special day of retreat from all obligations and a time to pamper yourself. To that end, the Reeves family invited us to join them for Sunday brunch with some traditional and not so traditional menu offerings.
Generally, restaurants offer Sunday Brunch as special occasion meals during holidays. However, we’re fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy Sunday Brunch every week in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Recently Tony and I joined Ted and Donna Huffman and started our celebration enjoying a complimentary basket of pastries and mimosas. Their menu is traditional, Lowcountry, and everything in between.
Our selections included a thin, light crepe filled with shrimp, sautéed spinach and cherry tomatoes in a shrimp cream sauce; a Three Egg Omelet with your choice of many adders; Strawberry and Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast and side offerings; and an 8 ounce NY Strip Steak with two eggs done your way. All our dishes were delicious, freshly prepared and more than satisfied our appetites. One of the more interesting suggestions from the brunch menu was a stack of savory jumbo lump crab pancakes with shitake mushrooms, topped with pecan butter, raspberry and blueberry balsamic syrup. Another favorite to enjoy on a beautiful, sunny Bluffton morning would be Eggs Oscar, which consists of two poached eggs with lump crab meat, and asparagus served on toasted english muffins with hollandaise. Or if you prefer something other than breakfast offerings, try the Fripp Dipp. This is sliced prime rib on a hoagie roll with melted swiss, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and horseradish sauce.
Entering Myrtle’s we were greeted by hostess Brittani. Standing nearby are two of the decorated pigs that were recently on display in town. You’ll see “Three Little Pigs” and one painted by the staff of Pulte Homes. Another must see for the women happens to be in the Ladies Room. Our own talented potter Jacob Preston created two beautiful sinks with sayings around the rim. Be sure and check them out.
In addition to the Brunch menu, Myrtle’s has much to offer on their Lunch, Dinner, and Early Bird Menu. There’s nothing more simple, nor more memorable, than the quality of a good experience.
We appreciated the service given by Jana, our server, and the food selections prepared by Chefs Josh and Jonah All. They manage to transform any Sunday into a special occasion.
Tuesday night is Prime Rib night and Wednesday is Jazzy Oyster Night with live jazz music and 1⁄2 price on all oyster dishes. Thursday nights are Girls Night Out with live music and $3 martinis. Be sure to check out the sign at the bar “Ladies Love Myrtle’s” and Friday nights are also dedicated to live music. The Early Bird Menu is offered nightly and consists of a three course meal $13-$15 and is available from 5-6 pm.
Whatever your taste, Myrtle’s has something to satisfy. Their lunch menu offers quite a selection of soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps. And, on the dinner menu, in addition to fresh, local seafood entrees and a special section on the menu dedicated to May River Oysters, there are lamb, veal, Black Angus steaks and prime rib offerings.
And, on Easter Sunday the Reeves family and their chefs have planned a wonderful Brunch Buffet.
A buffet is a wonderful medium to showcase their artistic and creative talents. You’ll start with a tasty mimosa and the menu will consist of a carving station, omelet station, salads, hot and cold pastas, fresh fruit, and delicious pastries for $19.95. Cost for children 10 and under will be $12.95. General Manager Lisa Cappano is certain that they will make it a very special occasion for all. Be sure and make your reservation for dining on Easter between 10 am – 3 pm.
The perfect recipe for Sunday Brunch might well be to call and make a reservation at this restaurant voted the Lowcountry’s “Best Brunch” and enjoy a little pampering.
